Do the Work by Steven Pressfield Book Review

The second book of THE DOMINO PROJECT, Do the Work builds on the first book’s, Poke the Box by Seth Godin, main theme of initiative

Once you have found the impetus to get started how do you keep on going when resistance threatens to destroy initiative

Steven Pressfield is the author of Do the Work, and these fiction books: The Profession, Killing Rommel, The Afghan Campaign, The Virtues of War, Last of the Amazons, Tides of War, Gates of Fire, The Legend of Bagger Vance along with nonfiction books: The Artist on Campaign, and The War of Art.

As an author, Pressfield writes Do the Work from an artist’s point of view but the principles can apply to anyone who has experienced inward and outward resistance to the fulfillment of any project.

He defines the forces of resistance such as fear, self doubt, procrastination, distractions, negative self chatter, etc. and gives tips on how to overcome each.

I love how he gives easy to understand examples of how these obstacles to progress can be overcome. I can’t wait to utilize them. Perhaps, I will finally complete my next book.

I am receiving all of the books from The Domino Project free through BzzAgent in exchange for spreading the word about the books and for sharing my honest reviews.

You can also get a free copy of Do the Work here. I would love to read what you think of it too.

Poke the Box by Seth Godin

I recently signed up for "The Domino Project"campaign through BzzAgent. The first free book I received on my Kindle is Poke The Box.

If you have ever started a project, a business, writing a book, creating a website or anything else that required initiative, you know the importance of getting started. This is what Seth Godin calls 'poking the box'.

I can't begin to tell you how many companies I have worked for that claimed to want people who could think outside of the box. I can't remember one that actually did. They all wanted people who would do exactly as they were told and who wouldn't upset the apple cart. Initiative is also discouraged in most classrooms.

Today, initiative and innovation are requirements of successful businesses but many businesses seem to be oblivious to that fact. People who aren't afraid to start something, even if it means they may fail many times before they succeed, are still discouraged from trying. Colleges teach almost everything else about business management and marketing but few teach how to be a self starter. Poke the Box is a celebration of those who aren't afraid to be starters.

You can receive the next free book, Fight resistance with Do the Work. The Kindle ed. is free until 5/25, thanks to @projectdomino and GE #imabzzagent

i will be reviewing this book as soon as I have read it too.

Book Review of The Corruptible written by Mark Mynheir

I enjoyed this fast paced action filled plot and I read it in two days.

Ray Quinn is a hard drinking private investigator. Hired to find Logan Ramsey and the sensitive information he supposedly stole, Quinn finds his dead body but not the client's information. Quinn and his sidekick, Crevis are great characters and I had fun getting to know them as they interact with many seedy and dangerous characters in solving the murder and finding the missing information. Being a murder mystery writer myself, I am usually able to solve these before the conclusion. I did guess correctly at some of the twists but I was taken by surprise at the actual murderer.

Since the author is a retired police detective, the behind the scenes and procedural details are believable and well written.

I did have some minor problems with it. Quinn reminded me a lot of the main character in House. There was one place where I was confused about what day it was and toward the end of the novel, the author has Crevis acting like he has never been at the client's office before, although he had been there before.

This edition also contains some misspellings but this is an advance copy so those may be addressed in the released copies.

I received this book free from Multnomah for reviewing.

StyleFind Review

I signed up for StyleFind free through BzzAgent. I think it would be a great way to find good deals on fashions for most people but I am plus size. There is very little there for plus sizes and almost nothing that I like is affordable. I addition, I think they must have installed some kind of keystroke spyware because I am getting ads from sites I visited on other sites now.

Breath of Angel book review

Breath of Angel: A Novel (The Angelaeon Circle) by

Karyn Henley

I received this great book free from Multnomah for reviewing it.

This is a different genre for me to read.  Although written as a fantasy for young adults, I really loved it and I'm 63.

Angels, malevolents, and immortals fight a vicious battle and a young priestess finds herself entangled in a fight to restore the stairway to heaven in this fast paced, exciting novel. This novel has something for everyone, romance, intrigue, secrets, mystery, murder, love, battles, legend, folklore, and more.

My only objection was the ending. I would have liked to have seen all of the threads tied up and firmly knotted. However, it is a series and I am eagerly awaiting the second book to see what happens next.

Prologue from The Bed & Breakfast

As Cody read the newspaper, his eyes welled up. “It says the police believe Tim committed suicide. I don’t believe that. I think he was murdered because I didn’t get that box back to him in time.”

Mike picked up the steel box from the kitchen counter and fingered the lock. “What’s in it, anyway? Do you have the key?”

Cody shook his head. “I don’t know what’s in it and Tim has the key.”

Mike shook the box and held it up to his ear. “Could Tim have killed Mark for what’s inside?”

“No, Tim could never have killed Mark anymore than I could have. He was our hero. As much as I loved him, Tim loved his brother even more. I wouldn’t be alive today, if it weren’t for the two of them.”

Mike nodded. “Maybe both of their deaths are related to that box.”

Cody’s eyes opened wide. “That would mean our lives could be in jeopardy too.”

“I think we’d better find out what’s in this box.” Mike reached into a drawer, took out a knife, and pried the lock open.
